After a day off riding yesterday it was back on the bikes today. We both had stiff legs after Sunday so we thought a nice ride in no hurry just to spin our pedals. We decided to do the ‘red house ride’ which is nice and undulating and gives a great view of the River Beauly. It was a bit cold and overcast so coats on today.
The ride to the red house was uneventful, we just cycled along, concentrating on cadence again, rather than speed, chatting as we went. The house appeared as we rounded the corner and we hadn’t realised that we had covered nearly 3 miles so we just carried on. We decided to head for the church and turn there, but as we approached we were still happily pedalling along so decided to go a little further. At 6.5 (on our bike computers) we decided that we would go home and feed & walk the dogs again.
Getting home was faster as its ever so slightly down hill. The road undulates the whole way but towards Kiltarlity, it undulates gently upwards and back home its downwards, apart from Dolly Hill of course. On the way out, Kenn had noticed a lovely big mushroom (possibly toadstool) in a layby and he pointed it out to me on the way home. It said it was a ‘proper gnome home’. It was, all red and spotty. Just like something out of an Enid Blyton story. We then saw a few more. A positive estate of gnome homes it seems.
Getting up Dolly Hill was no problem what so ever, neither was the bridge over the river before it. It seems that concentrating on our cadence seems to have sped us up a little and made cycling a lot easier. Both of us felt great on the ride tonight. Our legs no longer ache and we are feeling energised by the ride. We even, accidentally and without trying, got through the next 100 mile marker towards our goal. It was great fun and has left us really looking forward to tomorrow’s ride.
