Monday 19th September – Job hunting in the city

Onwards to the great job hunt in town. Or ‘up the city’ as Raff says.

We cycled pretty much the same route as we did last night only we stopped when we got to a large city centre car park, the name of which escapes me, which has free – and secure-ish – bike parking. Its in a large cage area with solid bike stands to lock the bikes too. We were very impressed.

The ride to the city was fine. We quickly found out that a path that Raff thought was a cycle path, was indeed not. It was the way back where it all went wrong.

On the way back, we cycled along a lovely flat dedicated cycle path and then up to a main road. To carry on in the direction we wanted necessitated crossing the road. Boy was it busy and we were there for ages before deciding to walk up the path and over at the pedestrian crossing. This took forever. Once over and back on the road, it was uphill and very hard work. We have since found out, if we stay on the bike path, go under the road, we can then turn left and back round, bringing us to the correct side of the road for our onward journey. We will try that next time.

We both had rucksacks with us. Mine was definitely heavier than Raffie’s and the weight was telling on me. Raff was getting fed up with either going slowly and nearly bumping into my back wheel or going on ahead and waiting for me to catch up. She did take off over the last mile and a half and was in and out of the loo by the time I reached her. She said that the last downhill bit was too good to waste on 11mph. Can’t blame her.

It was a total of 15 miles commuting today. Weather was nice. I am angling for Tuesday as a ride free day though. I will let you know how that goes though.

Goal: 1000.
Miles today: 15
Miles to date: 321.27
Miles to go: 679.73
Max speed: 24.1
Ave speed: 12.0
Feelings: Tired and fed up. Raff was fine though.

About RosieRosie

RosieRosie is a woman of a 'certain age' - whatever the hell that is supposed to mean, known. I feel about 26. I have no idea what I look like as some older woman keeps getting in the way when I look in the mirror. Separated from husband but dating a nice chap at the moment. I have a proper wanderlust and have finally moved - using the housing exchange system from - where I started in Inverness, down to Cornwall and back up to the Flatlands and Big Sky Country. It's taken since September 2011, when I left Inverness until May 2017 to get to somewhere that I really like. That's not too shoddy with a swap here and a swap there, saving up again for each move. Not ruling out going home to Norfolk if necessary. Time will tell. For now my mates are just a 90 minute or so, drive down the road. I love my bikes, I love my dog and I love guitars. They all keep my busy.
