Wednesday 9th November

Today is a day off cycling. We have spent the day having baths, walking the dogs and ….. doing up a couple of bikes that our good friend Mark, said we could have for free. Winter hacks, here we come!

My winter hack is finished. An old girl’s MTB. I took it for a test ride, up the road and back, nearly 300 yards. It changes gear, it stops and it feels fine. Fat saddle will take some getting used to, but I probably said that about the saddle on the Defy. Kenn is working on his winter bike now, it needs a new bolt and spindle to hold the cassette. Bike shop for a recce tomorrow then. Possibly new pedals too, if we can’t get the ones off one of the other ‘project’ bikes that Mark has.

Mark got these bikes, found them abandoned (handed them in to the police, they waited their allotted time and then the police gave them back to Mark), with a view to doing them up with the aid of a book about bike maintainence. He says that he has no skill in fixing bikes at all and has given up. Happily Kenn is great with this sort of thing and has had a fun day so far.

My Giant is filthy, Kenn’s Sun is not much better. They both need a hose off. We will do that tomorrow. I am not sure that the cycle to Church and back, along the Marriotts Way – the un-paved bit – was such a brilliant idea on road bikes. Poor things are not built for cycling through mud with.

This week, we have covered a mere 14 miles so far, which is fine and dandy as far as we are concerned as next week, our mileage is going to ramp up again. We are fitter now, it will be fine. (she says, fingers crossed and feeling the burn already)

Goal: 1000.
Miles  this week: 14
Miles to date: 837.74
Miles to go: 162.26
Max speed: 19.12
Ave speed: 12.02
Feelings: Fine, the dry weather is helpful.

About RosieRosie

RosieRosie is a woman of a 'certain age' - whatever the hell that is supposed to mean, known. I feel about 26. I have no idea what I look like as some older woman keeps getting in the way when I look in the mirror. Separated from husband but dating a nice chap at the moment. I have a proper wanderlust and have finally moved - using the housing exchange system from - where I started in Inverness, down to Cornwall and back up to the Flatlands and Big Sky Country. It's taken since September 2011, when I left Inverness until May 2017 to get to somewhere that I really like. That's not too shoddy with a swap here and a swap there, saving up again for each move. Not ruling out going home to Norfolk if necessary. Time will tell. For now my mates are just a 90 minute or so, drive down the road. I love my bikes, I love my dog and I love guitars. They all keep my busy.
