3rd August. Rest day? There was sunshine!

7.30am, we felt great, the sun was shining so we went for a quick leg turner before work today.  The sun was still shining by 7.40am when we were changed and getting the bikes out so we were really pleased.

We walked up the drive – too many punctures have been had by cycling up it – and got on at the road. We cycled happily along and took the Carlton Forhoe route. We did the loop in good time, not hurrying along, we just wanted to spin our legs really after yesterdays longish ride. When we got back to the main road, we decided to keep going and add the Barnham Broom loop on too, after all, a quick loop of 3.5 miles is hardly worth getting changed for, is it? It was lovely, the birds were singing, the rabbits hopping about and we watched a kestral hovering over the wheat field. There are a fair few birds of prey near us and they are always good to watch.

The little hill up to Barnham post office, used to half kill us when we first moved here and had allowed ourselves to get really unfit (we blame the rain, the cold and the biscuits) but now, we relax and just take our time and the hill is behind us in no time flat.

We cycled past the post office, making a mental note to pop by later and put up a new works poster there, and on to the junction where we made the decision whether to head back home or go via Barford village. As the road menders had been out a couple of days earlier and the road surface was all gravelly and horrible, plus we were getting chippings pinged at us from passing cars, we decided to head back on the nice tarmac road that has not been resurfaced yet. Lovely. That short bit of road just vanished under our tyres and we were back on the B1108 before we knew it and headed directly home from there.

Fabulous ride this morning. A good job we didn’t leave it until after work as its caning it down now and the temperature has dropped.

Kenn rang up last night about a Carrera Vanquish that’s for sale. The chap still has it and Kenn is going to have a look at it on Sunday tea time as the seller chappy is away somewhere until then. Hols I think. I say its a vanquish but the ad says it has upgraded wheels, tyres, brakes, gearset and seat. Vanquish frame then with knobs on. Watch this space, as they say, for news on the new bike front.

Kenn seems to be re-invigorated in his cycling with the advent of a new bike and being able to retire the Sun Solo from regular use. Can’t say I blame him. Non indexed gears, changers on the downtube, how did we all manage when we were growing up.

About RosieRosie

RosieRosie is a woman of a 'certain age' - whatever the hell that is supposed to mean, known. I feel about 26. I have no idea what I look like as some older woman keeps getting in the way when I look in the mirror. Separated from husband but dating a nice chap at the moment. I have a proper wanderlust and have finally moved - using the housing exchange system from - where I started in Inverness, down to Cornwall and back up to the Flatlands and Big Sky Country. It's taken since September 2011, when I left Inverness until May 2017 to get to somewhere that I really like. That's not too shoddy with a swap here and a swap there, saving up again for each move. Not ruling out going home to Norfolk if necessary. Time will tell. For now my mates are just a 90 minute or so, drive down the road. I love my bikes, I love my dog and I love guitars. They all keep my busy.
