n+1 (again)

We didn’t cycle into the city to work today but took the car as we popped to Wymondham first. We were going to go to Dereham and look at the Giant Yukon as for £309 it seemed a good ish deal. However, just down the road from us is Howards Cycles and the staff are very lovely, really helpful and enthusiastic and they don’t make comments when customers turn up in lycra and they are slightly bigger than your average racing snake. This is a good thing once you hit our age. Actually at any age if you have ever eaten anything resembling a cream bun as lycra shows every bit of yummy food you have ever tasted.

We explained the need for a winter bike and that we didn’t want a BSO but also didn’t want to spend buckets of money as we don’t have buckets of money. The nice man pointed out a Felt bike, but it didn’t have disc brakes, then a Giant Revel, ditto with the discs, or lack of. Then he showed us a nice Giant Revel 3 disc, which is white and red and in a size large. As Kenn has relinquished Mr Spesh to me as he is a bit tall to be riding that Specialized Hardrock, a Large sized Giant is the way to go for him. The bike was a touch over budget, £25 over budget to be truthful however, the nice man said that as the new 2013 stock is on its way in, he might be able to tweak the price to suit our budget. We discussed the fact that all it needed was some SPDs and we could ride it away and he suggested that he fitted the SPDs and just threw them in for the original price of the bike.  This way the bike comes in under budget after all. We left a deposit with him and should be collecting the bike on Monday. He only needs an hour or so to get the bike ready to ride but we are waiting for a cheque to clear. Story of our lives really. From there went off to work all excited about the new bike.

After work it was riding time. We didn’t plan a long ride, just about 10 – 12 miles tonight to keep the fat bits burning off. My back was killing me as its that sciatica time of year again. Same every September/October time, I am in agony and get stuck in the car/bath/armchair its boring and uncomfortable. On account of my poor old back, I took Mr Spesh and Kenn took the Vanquish as per.

We positively whizzed to the shop, bought some fish food and came back the pretty way. We took on ‘that’ hill again and did the whole lot in big ring. So we were going down it but that is not the point. Actually it is equally horrible going downhill as its a blind bend near a golf course which means that there are Mercs coming at us and giving no quarter. We even got home before lighting up time too, so we were impressed. Our phone GPS says that we averaged 10.7mph but it took into account wandering around the pet shop as I forgot to pause it. Rookie mistake that. Never mind and I do remember a time that we aspired to average 10mph over a ride and it was not that long ago, in the grand scheme of things.

We might have tomorrow off as we have seen the weather forecast, however if the sun shines we might well ride. As we only have 5 and a bit miles to the completion of our next thousand miles, we might well go out tomorrow, who knows.

Kenn’s new baby.

About RosieRosie

RosieRosie is a woman of a 'certain age' - whatever the hell that is supposed to mean, known. I feel about 26. I have no idea what I look like as some older woman keeps getting in the way when I look in the mirror. Separated from husband but dating a nice chap at the moment. I have a proper wanderlust and have finally moved - using the housing exchange system from - where I started in Inverness, down to Cornwall and back up to the Flatlands and Big Sky Country. It's taken since September 2011, when I left Inverness until May 2017 to get to somewhere that I really like. That's not too shoddy with a swap here and a swap there, saving up again for each move. Not ruling out going home to Norfolk if necessary. Time will tell. For now my mates are just a 90 minute or so, drive down the road. I love my bikes, I love my dog and I love guitars. They all keep my busy.
